They grow up so fast.

You could never tell by looking at her:
[Sitting pretty]
But Emily's badness quota has reached new levels.
[Pully pully]

Eating a hole through the hallway rug was only the start of it. Barking at everyone who goes by our house, WHILE she is sitting on my lap, and scaring the bejeebus out of Mommy. Plopping down in the middle of the road and refusing to walk. Yeah, like that.

Tonight, Emily grabbed Bunny, climbed on my leg, and HUMPED IT. My leg. While hugging Bunny in between.

Mommy's little girl is growing up. Eeek.

Sunday Beach Trips

[Hindsight]

[Bobbing]
--
Right now, Emily is rolling in a patch of sun, chomping on Bunny's butt and looking up to bark at leaves drifting in the patio.

Brushes with people remind me how much I love being a hermit.

Home Life

[Emily at the top of the stairs. Black bag is now her private elevator down]

[Dandling in Daddy's Lap]

Fuzzbutt is now eating up the blue rug in the hall.

Dire Misdeeds and Carnage

[Chewing Stinky Tripe Rolly on Mommy's Foot]

When H. came down from her shower to finish her Korean post, it took her a moment to realize something was amiss with the computer on the coffee table:

Two were lying next to the computer, and another on top of it. But count, one, two, three, four. One was MISSING!

[The pieces match what H. was feeling]

Asking Emily, quite frantically, "Did you eat it? Did you eat the last piece Emily?" just wasn't going to work. That took about 10 minutes to sink in, while H. was scouring the room, scared out of her mind that Emily would have to have surgery.

Then I found it under the sofa.
[Curious George did NOT eat the last piece]

Three years off my life, I swear.

Even the Sky Cried

WBC Finals extended up to the 10th inning: Korea-Japan, 3:5.

WAH!!! We lost at Baseball!!!

*kicks dirt around and pouts*

Tee hee. Okay, moment over. Looks like a great game was played by all. Have a pleasant trip home, boys.

H. is off to pick out a new bathroom rug, as our old one (which was very cheap) is now also very very grungy. Also, more poo bags for Emily.

Lazy Weekend

Emily's Diary, Saturday and Sunday

[Sat in a Patch of Sun with my Lamb Chewy]

[Yup, my throne is two sofa cushions
and Mommy's winter coat]

Daddy dragged me and lazy Mommy to the beach, where I left my mark:
[Emilysaurus Rex]

And I dug up Someone Else's Huge Old Poo in the sand and carried it around before Daddy stole my preciouses away from me.

Then I kissed a boy with that mouth:

[Tee hee, teasies]

brief change of plans

Contrary to popular opinion, dog pee will not make your flowers grow better. Despite this, the heirloom daffodils survived 3 months of Emily stomping through her primo potty ground.
[Brave New Flowers]

[Shaggy Puppy Eats Flowers]

We'll have to brave the scissors and trim her face again. People in our neighborhood stop and call her "that cute white puppy," and she totally doesn't deserve beauty titles with such a lazy Mommy.
--
Looks like H&M won't be ordering a 회 platter on Saturday -- the new Korean restaurant says they're only doing dinners now.

Though, I wonder why there are TWO Korean restaurants in an out of the way dorpje like Nieuwe Vennep and not in an international student town like Leiden.

Beach Day Report II

Videos from Beach Day. Some are pretty, some are pretty dizzy.
엄마+아빠, 좋은 주말 보내세요. 해변가 비디오 올려요.

When we first put her down on sand, Emily did a mini-FRAP, and then went running in circles. Watch at your own risk. (tee hee)

We're just not fast enough for her, but she always comes back when called at the beach.

[More Energy than the Duracel Bunny]

Of course, there was treasure everywhere, silly humans!

[Emily the Digger]

Emily also discovered... BIRDS!

[Chickens! Flying Black Chickens!]

Lately, Emily and H. have taken to walkies in the nearby forest/park. It's too far off that getting there would be enough walkie for the whole day, before we even begin!

So H. stuffs the puppy in her puppy-carry bag. If only Emily wouldn't go Cujo inside.

Sea Legs

H. being done with more of her inburgeringsverplicht (deel van het NT2-II), we took the afternoon off, and went to the beach.[Windy!]

[Dirt! Dirt!]
[Treasure Everywhere!]

Not that she stood in one place for long.
[Sea Puppy!]
[Grace Mommy with a Grin]
[I'm Actually Hunting Black Birds]

Yes. H&M had fun too.

From Beyond the Deep

Something H. has wanted to say for a long time:

[CTHULU!]

ps. Emily after a walk gets grungy snout and belly fur. Half baths in the sink are a must.

---------------------------------------------------
Emily notes:
[From a professional dog behaviorist, T. Mosconi from the Peninsula Humane Society]: "Nonetheless, most dogs exhibit at least some of these common adolescent traits: selective hearing; refusal to do previously learned commands; reversion to puppy behaviors such as mouthiness, destructive chewing, jumping and barking; lapses in housebreaking and just about anything else to drive their guardian insane. The good news is that this period in a dog's life doesn't last long; the bad news is that it isn't short enough ... Lenny's adolescence has brought other behavioral changes as well. She now gets very excited when visitors stop by our office. She has started jumping on people and barking when someone arrives.
"
- Emily had about 9 days of significant leash pulling and ignoring commands. It felt like she had simply forgotten 2 months of training. She has quickly improved and is back to nice walks and obeying commands.

Puppy Class

Guess who's the class clown now?

When doing the "Come to Mommy!" exercise, Emily ran the other way instead, tagging all the other dogs, and tumbled over her head running (she was going so fast), before she came to Mommy.

Oh, my kingdom for a camera.

We're going to the beach today.

Numerical Updates -18th Week & note to 엄마

17 Weeks and 2 days old

3 puppy vaccinations complete at 13 weeks. Next scheduled is her "fixing," at 7 months.

No rabies shot necessary in the Netherlands, unless she is
1) going abroad, or
2) staying at a doggy boarding house

Currently: 2.6 kg.

Temporarily on Eukanuba Sensitive Stomach due to her stomach upset, but will go back to Orijen Puppy after a week.

No teeth lost yet.

--

[Pay Attention To ME!]

Fame for Pot Puppy

Emily has been to the vet for some stomach trouble, which turned out mostly to be alarmed-parentitis. Still, she has new vet prescribed food (which she loves) and pills. Shoving them down her throat is H.'s new specialty.
--

Emily is the featured puppy on Daily Puppy for March/13th, US time. Hee!

Lest the cuteness on Daily Puppy let you forget, remember Emily is a pooper and messy digger extraordinaire:

The Dutch Team is going to the next round of the World Baseball Classics. Who knew the Dutch were so good at honkball? Of course Korea's made it to the next round as #1 from Group A, but now the players are all whining and sluggish and talking of dropping out. With your shield or on it, LOSERS! We're playing Mexico next on 3/16.

Destiny

(based on H.'s on-again-off-again viewing of anime) In Japan, they say that people who're meant to fall in love are connected by an invisible red cord.

But Emily, that's just the drawstring on Mommy's gym pants.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emily notes:
- When Emily gets her shots at the Vet, she is usually cranky and sluggish for a few days.
- Expect stubborn walks, minimal eating, and ignoring commands

Night Time Activities

Emily & M. chilling in the evening. Sometimes she gives Mommy "the PAW." grrr![Ousting Mommy]
[Dandling on a lap is hard work!]

Island

It was gorgeous out, sunny and warm, if windy. Emily went walking in a park in the morning, and this afternoon, we set her loose on the tiny island in the middle of our local canal. A lovely time was had by all.

Except maybe the poor brown dog who barked at us jealously from a nearby terrace.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Emily notes: From week 13 - week 17
- excellent walks on loose leash
- housetrained - knows to stand on box at door to go outside
- immediately obeys sit, come, watch, and off.
- sleeps for 8 hours at night
- stays nearby when off leash and outdoors

Happy Raining

[It smells like Spring]

Antique Bakery (film) is frothy and wonderful fun.

장자연, "Sunny" from Boys over Flowers, shocking and sad, was found dead. Suicide they say. This is really disturbing.

News of RaceFail 09 Outing and BearGate are spreading word little by little. Still, (like H.'s old fandom & meatspace cohorts) a lot of talk of support on the "right" side remains massively clueless. How depressing.

Emily says," pffft, snuggle me."

Depth Perception in Puppies

한 눈 파는 사이에 거실 문을 1cm라도 열어놓으면, Emily can nose her way out and run all the way up the stairs to the 2nd floor in a wink. But she can't come down. Not one step. Coaxing her on the third step felt like cruelty to puppies.

[But it's so far down!]

Lazy Lessons

[Sat in a Patch of Sun]
--

H. is moving on and leaving things, might-have-beens, and waspish persons behind.

It's been a long time coming, and though I make this resolution again and again every week, the external force making it stick is realizing that ejecting these toxins from my mental space is as important to Emily and M. as it is for me.

Poo on a Plastic Fork

Emily's new specialty is pooing at the edge of the garden so her poo drops under the fence and rolls into our neighbor's patio (see here). H. has to pick it out with a plastic fork.

Puppy:4 - Human:0

So, M. brought home 4 more bricks and covered up the slot.

[Din't Do Nothing]

Yesterday's walk was mad+crazy+hangdog, but last night, despite a head cold, H. finished Cesar Milan's Cesar's Way. We were already fans of The Dog Whisperer, and the "calm assertive energy" bit about pack mentality. So, today's walk was no-nonsense and in-charge.

Mommy's greatest puppy ambition is to be a wandering homeless person with Emily. Yeah, according to Cesar Milan, they have the best behaved & happiest dogs.
--
Have the Korean film version of Antique Bakery to watch. The manga was so-so (grows on you though), but the movie-trailer from last November was cute. It might be worth it for 김재욱 (from Coffee Prince), 'cause 주지훈 just looks like a rat to me.

Human Failings

In non-Emily news,

- This week, Dutch Radio has been all about the Turkish Airlines crash (watching the press conference with the Black Box recordings now), and also how Twitter will change news media.

- This makes Twitter much more interesting that I'd ever considered it to be.

- Uncle Shaggy, in claiming he is "lazy," has identified himself with a ground squirrel.

- Oh and "outing" a fandom person's real name and info, or threatening to do so, and thinking it's perfectly OK. Nope, it's still despicable and nasty. No excuse.

Milestones

[Dozy]

Emily's new cut is making her look like a much older puppy, or maybe she is an older puppy, at almost four months. In a bit, she'll be hitting adolescence. She's already forgotten how to "sit" if there's no treat.
[Emily ate her rose]
Her new hair cut gives her the sideways ponytail look. This is Emily with Mousie, her first toy, which she brought home (smelling of her litter mates) [Emily catches Mousie]

Today, she's been sitting on her haunches and dragging her butt across the cement tiles, which means she'll need to have her "anal glands expressed" if Mommy only knew how.

Looking forward to blood and teeth in her water bowl any day now.

Sunday in the Park with Emily

Getting up at the crack of dawn means breakfast, potties, playing fetch, e-mail, newspapers, and first round of chocolates(for us) are over by 8 am. H&M are sitting around with puppy going, hmm, what now?

So we started off Sunday with a drive to the nearest large park (not teeny dog park).
[Prisoner Transport 1124]

And hey, there were black swans! Like effing Swan Lake!

And first signs of spring. Crocuses coming up under dead leaves, and all that. Of course, while H. is thinking, oh pretty! lilies of the valley! M. goes "Woo hoo! Alien Pod Plants!"

[Too much Star Trek on the brain]

Then again, he is right on with: "this park sure looks weird."
Straight out of a Guillermo del Toro film.

All the while, Emily was on her happy walk. We bribed her with treats not to bark at joggers.

Of course, some of you might have noticed the sharp drop in Emily pictures (or posting of obscured ones). Yes, you're right on. Mommy went scissor happy on her face, and now Emily looks like Max Headroom.

- Puppy Walks: must not be too strenuous or will strain growing joints and muscles. 5x number of months old, and adjust for energy level.

- Thursday (2/26), H. walked out the door without her keys, and so she and Emily had to walk 55 minutes to M.'s department and get him to drive us home. H. tried to carry Emily part of the way, but the puppy would have none of that.
